The Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden
The Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden opened its gates to the public on August 9, 1866 and since that time has become one of the most prestigious and most beautiful zoo parks. Guests coming to the jubilee celebration were received by a crowd wearing authentic costumes. As part of the celebration, an exceptional album has been published in order to portray the last 150 years and a very special exhibition was also organized showing some artistic photos of amazing animals took by the world famous photographer, Mr. Joel Sartore (working for the National Geographic). Dr. Miklós Persányi, Director of the Zoo provided up-to-date information regarding the two most important new establishments to be built as part of the large expansion plan, the Pannon Park and the Mesepark (Story Park). To celebrate this special anniversary, the National Bank of Hungary issued commemorative coins of 10 000 HUF in silver and 2000 HUF in bronze and the Hungarian Postal Services issued a unique block of stamps.
Apart from the various particular programs, an additional surprise is also coming - as we have been informed by the Director. Koala bears are going to arrive to Budapest to be part of the zoo family.
